Here's a link to a small interview with the director. He says this is satire meant to spoof all the new dark gritty reboots. You want dark? He gives you dark. Hahahha.

I care very little for Power Rangers, but I really enjoyed this.

I hear Haim Saban and Lionsgate are trying to get this taken down, but that's probably because their "official" Power Rangers movie is probably going to look like crap compared to this.
