Re: Generations Leader Jetfire - Baltmatrix

Pascal:

I think I may try getting rid of the chrome too, then painting it up a bit...if I can manage to find a jetfire here in Niagara.

Do you think that using degreaser would also work on the gold chrome used on YOTH Optimus?

Re: Generations Leader Jetfire - Baltmatrix

I guess, but what color is the plastic underneath the gold chrome?

Why the hell would you remove to chrome?

Whose chrome? Jetfire's or Prime's?

Thanks Pascal.

You can probably use Sharpies for detailing.

edit: I forget to ask each time. How's the plastic feel AFTER a day of soaking? How many hours exactly?

Beast Wars red chrome. Oh man, where do you start.

It's okay to leave it as well

But it sticks out like a cheap KO toy chrome.

Thanks, I didn't know that this place was that bad of a competition.

I've been a lurker on and off for years.

I've also been collecting toys for about 40 years, and have some of just about anything, including museum pieces. I "downplayed" my collection which is probably more around 4,000+, as I wanted more the point that compared to so many others, the plastic on this one IS cheap. If you have or seen the 2012 Bruticus, this plastic is about the same of those, but even cheaper.

Here's some quick phone shots of Jetfires for comparison. (I should have taken my DSLR out, but meh...too much trouble)

Robot mode, no accessories

With

Guardians/Gerwalk mode, whoops, one can't...

Plane mode

The old and the new

And for those that want a wiener fight about collections, here's just my office (quick and dirty)

This represent only a fraction of my collection... these are the ones I play with (my favourites that are smallish enough to pile up like this, and some of the ones I acquired in the last year) (I'm counting over 50 in just that last picture here)

My Soul of Chogokin collection that is bigger now (older picture),

and a bunch of others in in other rooms, plus a closet full of containers, plus many MIB. and that's just touching the surface.

So yeah.. I'm freaking clueless about plastic quality...

So anyways, my point is that

1) he looks very nice in robot mode, and the plane mode from the top
2) he is very expensive for the quality (which seems that he should have been a smaller figure)
3) his parts are honeycombed worse than the cyberjet version(the itsy-bitsy one) and the plastic a lot cheaper, and some parts could very easily be snapped if not careful during transformation.
4) he lacks functional details, such as moving parts for hands and feet.

Note that I created my account (finally after all these years) because of this guy.

I've been waiting for him for so many months, I had to run across the city, spend hours to locate one, and then to find out how cheap he is... as stated, I was quite peeved and "heartbroken" over it and wanted to prevent others to go through the same. I've stated my opinion, and it's up for anyone to decide if they believe that he's worth the 60$ (with tax).

I don't but then again, I might regret not having him if I would return him as he appears to be a scalper's dream as he sounds like he'll be hard to find, low production, etc. I may be wrong and they might go and mass produce him, lower the price, etc. and I'll kick myself later, but hey, it's a risk.. I missed out of a few because I hesitate.

Re: Generations Leader Jetfire - Baltmatrix

Ah, you're comparing the plastic quality between then and now. Yes, there's quite a leap even before the introduction of TFP line.

It's even more apparent if you try and cut up the toys when kitbashing.

Jetfire's not any better or less than the what we've been getting recently.

Re: Generations Leader Jetfire - Baltmatrix

I have high-end Yamato Macross Valks that use much weaker plastics/parts/construction techniques. Also have an original chunky Valk that's pretty scary to transform at times (especially the tail fins) despite all the die-cast.

Re: Generations Leader Jetfire - Baltmatrix

"High end" or "display only" is both a travesty and tragedy to what children's toys have become. Cheap engineering is more like it.

This is where Pascal and I would butt heads. Toys should always be shared with kids.
