should be some grey smokey accents in that white fluff so it looks less like a loud...

Dry Brushing will work for the flames I have always worked with yellow/brighter colors at the base and worked out to the reds... having the colors ovrlapping a bit to get that flame effect as for the smoke shades never had luck dry brushing it as the cotten won't stay "puffy" maybe a spray can?
