I was surprised, even amazed that they managed to pull the Classics and Generation Thrilling 30 versions out without much backlash.

But the 2013 G.I. Joe non-transforming plane didn't avoid it and lawsuits and settlements were made.
Those lawsuits ended in Hasbro's favor and since Harmony Gold cant go against them again under the same ground, they were able to do Gen 30 easily.

Considering that Classics was made 2006 and Gen 30 in 2014 while the lawsuit was in 2013, I would gather they already had the design being worked on and the transformation is so different from the VF model that it probably passed as different enough to pass by any copyrights infringement.

Note that you can get do gerwalk type with the Classics, but not with the Gen 30.

While the lawsuit was dismissed in Hasbro's favour, it was both parties that agreed to the dismissal due to reaching an agreement outside the courts.

Nothing is public about this settlement, but odds are Hasbro paid enough to quiet HG at least for a while.

Re: $70 G1 Optimus

God Harmony Gold has been such a stain on Robotech in North America. They're like the people/companies that sit on patents waiting for opportunities to sue to make money with no real intention of ever doing anything with their IP.

I may be mistaken, but I thought I read somewhere that Harmony Gold's main business has nothing to do with toys or their related media. Rather they just keep holding the license for whatever reason.

Don't you have to use your patent in order to keep it? Or is that not how it works?

If No, then I would never pay 15$ for it, or any other Action Master.
But then, I have been tempted by some.

So I guess everyone is different, yet we all have some inconsistencies where you might want something you wouldn't usually get otherwise.
Like the OP implied in his tweet, It's on the wrong shelf... Bought that die cast vehicle for 10$ at Toys R Us....

I stepped into the Milton Walmart. They have two G1 primes. I picked it up and couldn’t believe it was 70 bucks... I even went to the price checker just to realize it... wow.... how and why is this thing so much money??????

Because its Optimus. And they are selling quite well in the US right now at $50 a piece. Some are even selling on e-bay at $85 CAD /$65 USD.

The bigger question is why are these flying off the shelves? I get it, optimus prime, yada, yada, yada but you'd think that the average (fanatic) collector has this many times over already and the casual toy shopper would dismiss that toy at that price.

It's what I call "first-release-itis"

Since they are just hitting shelves here now, those collectors who don't mind the price, or do mind but still want one anyway, are buying. Add in the scalpers who also want in on the action because their best return is usually early on when demand is high. So that means Prime will probably fly off the shelves for now.

The question is will Hasbro release quantities like Starscream/Devastator, or like Hot Rod? If it is the latter then we will probably see him sit on the shelves, Ike Hot Rod. If not then he will be gone by the end of the month.

It should be interesting. This will probably be a good test of Prime's popularity. Of course we won't know the numbers from Hasbro so it is probably a moot point.

I wonder if anyone can find a case box. I have seen some in the past few years, and they usually have a #*** of 500, or some such to tell you how many cases were shipped by Hasbro.
