Saw this last Friday and it was indeed a great film. Hopefully someone picks this up for a regional release as I really want a blu-ray of this.

Re: The Anime Thread!
I thought that Macross Frontier had exceptional fighting scenes compared to other animes I've seen in the past. The insert songs are excellent, most notably Nyan Nyan Service Medley during the final fight scene. I also enjoyed how they reference the original Macross anime and Alto is shown mimicking scenes from the previous Macross series as part of the 25th Anniversary Tribute.
I however, found that like most anime that the major conflict felt rushed because of unnecessary plot-fillers or character "development" during the first half of the series. I also felt the series did not resolve the love triangle. I am looking forward to the theatrical sequels planned though (as long as it isn't an alternate timeline/universe like the Eureka 7 movie >_<)
As for Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0... I enjoyed both movies. I've only seen a few episodes of the original anime, so I only have basic knowledge of the overall plot as well as the religious and psychological concepts reference made.
Have you seen the original anime including End of Evangelion? How does it compare to the remake? likes? dislike?

Re: The Anime Thread!
End of Eva is it's own beast and is hard to explain. You have to see the TV series to even attempt this as it's essentially a retelling of the last 2 episodes of the TV series.
The new movies take a different approach then the TV anime. The big difference I find between the rebuild movies and the TV series is the TV series spends a lot more time tackling all the unpleasant emotional problems the characters have. The TV series is a lot darker and pessimistic in this respect wile the rebuild movies, wile they still tackle this, take a much more optimistic approach and has an overall more upbeat view on life in general. The rebuild movies are also much better in terms of animation quality and look amazing. Because of this I find they also spend a lot more time on the battle/action scene's wile the TV series spent more time on the characters and their various emotional problems.
Also the first movie is more or less a scene by scene recap of the first 6 episodes of the TV series wile the second film is more or less were it becomes completely different.

Everybody go download the first, and as far as I can tell only, ep of "Cat Shit One"
That show was EPIC, and racist, and action packed, and had awesome CGI, and was.... cute O_o
