Re: RoboCop
My biggest issue is with the changes that they've made to the storyline.
Car bomb is boring. He should die in the line of duty, not to a wussy ass car bomb.
Similarly, I liked how OCP was the big bad corporation that decided to take this police officer and turn him into a robot that they "owned" without anyone's consent or knowledge.
In this new one, by asking for his wife's consent, they not only make OCP look less like the villain, but they make her selfish and complicit in him becoming robocop - which is really not a "cool" thing at all. Being robocop is a terrible thing for Murphy, and he suffers for it. You've just made his wife an accomplice in that suffering for what we can assume are her own selfish reasons (wanting to keep him alive, hoping he'll be like he used to be with her and her family).
Similarly, his kid gets to meet him. I think one of the big struggles and emotional pains for robocop should be the knowledge that he can never tell his child or wife who he is, because they're better off grieving and moving on, instead of knowing that their dad/husband is a robot and suffering with his unending tormented "quasi-life". By having his kid and child know him as robocop, it takes way that pain and substitutes a whole new awkward relationship. instead of being the father who has to watch his family from a distance, knowing they must always think he's dead, instead he's the father who can't fit in and wishes he was dead.
They're taking all the most emotional and deep tragic parts of robocop and messing with them, which is not a good starting point, imho.
