Do they just not want our business anymore? Good grief.

It seems the lessons we thought they learned when prices were dropping back towards the market rate have been lost, or not really learned.

My only hope for TRU is that they continue to do the big clearance price drops and BOGO sales to make some stuff worthwhile. I mean some ML stuff recently got clearanced for 50% off and then they had BOGO 40%, 50% and BOGO free. That made things really cheap.

If they raise prices, but continue to offer limited deep discounts like that I am ok with it. Just means I won't buy much of anything from them anymore (again).

Re: ToysRUs.ca Transformers Sightings and discussion

Don't think I bought a single transformer from TRU last year. The ones near me don't get new stuff in a particularly timely manner, and when I do go in, even if I see something I kind of like, I look at the price and put it back. Sales are the only temptation, but even then, most everything on the shelf is a toy or character I already own from years ago.

Despite this, I went in at least once a month to look, and keep the website bookmarked, checking for sales. All those visits ended with me buying something that wasn't transformers, or nothing at all.

Doesn't help that the transformers section of the aisle seems to shrink every year.

That's $97.94 after taxes in QC. Not picking up anything not on sale at Toys R Us anymore.

Last year, I bought most of my Transformers at Toys R Us. Got so many Leaders with the 25% coupons and the 40% sale in BF.

I also noticed that last year, my local Toys R Us have being busier thanks to the normal pricing, but I guess it's the end of an era, again.

Re: ToysRUs.ca Transformers Sightings and discussion

Looks like this may not an isolated case. I recently noticed that the Sherway and Yonge/Steeles locations are very bare (about 1/4 empty shelves); all old inventory and no restock in sight. I wouldn't be surprised if they are next to close.

Maybe they will relocate to smaller real estate like the Lawrence Square location did after it shut down the Yonge and Eglington location.

Or maybe Toys R Us Canada is finally going bankrupt...

Or they will restock soon; we'll see either way I guess.

Yes.

Was weird, went there a few days before and no indication they would close.

Went back Saturday and they're shuttered.

A couple of years ago, one of the longtime locations in Calgary suddenly shut down. The mall they were in decided last minute not to renew the lease. So all the product and staff had to be dispersed to other stores. And yeah, same thing, went one day, everything was normal, couple weeks later and it's shuttered and empty, with no/barely any prior indication.

The brand as a whole seems to be doing well enough around here though, as last fall they opened 2 new locations.
