MP sideswipe - checking condition
hi, planning to get a loose MP sideswipe on thursday, i was wondering for those who own MP sideswipe, what should i look out or watch out for in terms of checking the toy's condition before buying.
the seller claims no damages or scratches on the toy. i will prolly ask the seller to transform the toy once in front of me.
thanks in advance

Re: MP sideswipe - checking condition
Most of the issues I've seen revolve around the paint apps in vehicle mode.
Take a GOOD THOROUGH LOOK at the thing in vehicle mode.
Trouble areas are the paint around the doors and hood.

Re: MP sideswipe - checking condition
As the others have said, the paint is the big issue.
However considering the price and how picky you are about the quality, you may want to pass. If you are very picky about the paint, condition, etc. then definitely pass because you'll come away with a sense of being let down.
However, if you go in with the understanding that this is a common problem/concern with MP Sideswipe then decide if the price point is worth it.
Just remember that whatever you are paying is hopefully a "fair" market price and it is still a seller's markent for MP Sideswipe.

Re: MP sideswipe - checking condition
what kind of paint trouble issues should i watch for? paint chips? uneven paint?
and what are the so-called "common" paint issues found on MP sideswipe? if its a common problem i can prolly live with it; i just dont want to unknowingly get a dud or factory defect/reject thats all

Re: MP sideswipe - checking condition
I think in car mode the red is not applied evenly throughout the door panels.. so you might see different shades of red :/
also I have seen that some sideswipe came without the crotchplate flap thingy.. so look out for that too

Most common is uneven paint distribution on the doors and hood most specifically.
For mine there is a small "glob" of paint on one of the intakes and the roof near the windshield. As well the paint in spots has a sort of "uneven" look like they didn't give it quite a full coat over the whole section.
Also because they made the windows/windshield/roof all one piece out of clear plastic and then painted the roof, the red is slight darker than the rest of the car.
Overall MP Sideswipe is an awesome toy, but definitely the paint in vehicle mode detracts from the toy. That's why he stays in Prime's trailer when in vehicle mode. However he mostly stays in robot mode because it is really great.

Re: MP sideswipe - checking condition
thanks all for the input, after watching this youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zccRbM_Uzfs
i kinda freaked out at how bad the paint job QC was on the door panels and throughout in vehicle mode. i have decided to cancel the trade and skip this MP altogether, if all sideswipes would have this type of paint issues
im not a terribly picky person, but i was hoping for a better qc for a MP figure. fyi i offered $65 for the trade, but it seems the me that its more worthwhile to spend the money on something else, like a third party product with better QC (unless the seller assures me that the paint job is not as bad as the one on the youtube video)
thanks again to all for your time
PS is MP red alert any better or is he just as bad?

Re: MP sideswipe - checking condition
I'll echo a bit of what's been said above. Check the red pain especially in vehicle mode. There may be blotches, scratches, and flat out missing detail.
For me, the obvious area of most concern is the hood. If that's fine then, for the most part, the robot mode will be fine or at least won't look like crap.

Mine isn't quite as bad as the one in the review, but it is pretty close. $65 is not a bad price. The reality is that I haven't seen any evidence yet that the paint QC issues have been fixed for any later run MP Sideswipes. It may have been, but someone else will have to speak to that.
I don't have Red Alert so I can't say what he is like.
