Re: Post your non TF Toy photos

ya i actually ment the scale of the fix configuration ones compared. so they are 1/144. that was my question.

but the fix config metal composite ones are 1/100.. ya they are getting confusing. especially when you go to buy one from an online retailer most of them dont tell you the scale and i would be crazy pissed if i paid huge cash and got a 1/144.

i have a HUGE collection of MG kits. though most still need to be built lol but i LOVE my gundams. and i have like 8-10 PGs only 1 built atm.

i dont know how to airbrush and dont have one and im scared to paint them regularly incase they come out looking like crap. so,.....

any tips from you guys that do paint them please share.

i have the MB freedom but it hasnt been taken out of its package since i bought him when he came out cause need the room. which ill have when i finally move in a month or 2 hopefully.

then im breaking into that massive box of chain bases i have and my set up is going to look epic.

oh i do collect the new RG line which are 1/144 scale but the articulation of MGs so they are nice. but reg HGs arent for me. though i do hope they bring out the more obscure figs into the RG or MG line like the thrones for example.

oh also i wonder why MB exia has red feet and the MG one has blue??? hmmm.

The basic tip is to practice practice and practice.

Some people recommend getting a cheaper kit (like 1/144 HGs) to practice, but I don't quite believe in that, mainly because you have less "drive" to get a kit you don't care for looking good compared to one that you actually like.

Like painting anything, the most important things are:
- make sure parts are clean
- prime
- paint by misting multiple light coats
- always give time to cure ("dry" does not equal "cured")
- always wear a respirator and airbrush into a spray-booth

The guy custom-painted his MG Exia.

i dont have an airbrush so it would be by hand or with the spray cans.

I'd say still the same things.

Spray cans should be used in well-ventilated areas, and mist over light coats to build up the primer and color.
For hand-painting, masking helps a bit, but nothing beats practice! You can't teach steady-handedness to anyone, it comes from practice. I personally have very little luck in hand-brushing acrylics, but others have proven me otherwise. For hand-brushing, I tend to prefer using enamels. I find that both acrylics and lacquers (especially lacquers) are better suited for spraying.

I started out with my older Gundam kits (from 7-ish years ago) with hand-brushing enamels... then I moved onto enamel spraycans... and when spraycans weren't doing it for me, I got an airbrush to spray acrylics... Now I almost exclusively airbrush lacquers...

Hehe. Felt the need to take a similar picture.

1/6 scale Iron Man Mk.VI and War Machine from Hot Toys.

Sadly, their poses are a little more bland since I didn't put them on their stands; their balance is a bit finicky. In fact, my Mk.VI fell over once during the picture-taking.

Haha, fortunately, no damage on the Mk.VI after the topple; it fell off my table onto my plastic chair and then bounced onto the floor; considering how light that figure is, the impact wasn't too much.

But I also used my phone for that picture as well.
Nice snag for $20 for both, though.

Funny story about my collecting: every time I say to myself "Wouldn't it be cool if I had a full set of only XYZ?", I usually end up going out of my way to fulfill that collection (started with Black Sentai Mechs, then Black Primes, then Black TFs...)

For Ironmen, I originally said:
"Wouldn't it be cool if I bought all the movie-related 3.75" Ironmen?"
Without having bought anything, it then turned into:
"Wouldn't it be cool if I bought all the movie-related 6" Ironmen?"
Then another transformation:
"Wouldn't it be cool if I bought all the movie-related Hot Toys Ironmen?"
... and that's how my wallet started crying.
