vs.
Artsy "life imitates the movies" flick with great reviews.

Turns out I was in the mood for artsy so Birdman got my bills.
Fantastic movie.
Michael Keaton channels a hyper-realized version of himself if he was the type to have lamented his run as The (original movie version) Caped Crusader.
Edward Norton is perfect in his portrayal of that pretentious guy who doesn't give a fuck about anything but what you think of him.
Even Emma Stone, bug-eyed, bleach blonde and brooding as Keaton's neglected daughter/personal assistant fresh out of rehab proved she can portray someone other than the ingenue we're so used to seeing her as.
I've done live theatre so the antics and infighting revolving around the doomed Broadway play they were trying to put on was true to life yet captivating to watch in a real-time train wreck sort of way.
And from a technical/directorial standpoint the whole film is shot as one continuous shot. Amazing!
Definitely check it out if you want to step outside the Hollywood Blockbuster comfort zone. As much as I hate the term "Oscar Buzz" I'd be surprised if Birdman doesn't receive any industry accolades.
