Transformers Masterpieces
I'm thinking of sort updating my TF Masterpieces, like right now I'm sitting on MP Prime Perfect Edition, and MP-03 Starscream MISB high-grade boxes too, they were hand selected by me.
My question is should I get MP-10 Optimus Prime and King Starscream and get rid of the others, because they are just basically updated versions anyways.
I'm totally into Transformers as animated as they can get.
Like, TFC Book Reissue Starscream was awesome so I got of em, and The Encore Minibots, I really like the animated look.
So, would it be smart to upgrade them?
Oh, by the way..........No Hasbro's. Just Takara. It's a brand I've know and trusted.

Re: Transformers Masterpieces
MP-04 (your "MP Prime Perfect Edition") is different from MP-10 in terms of size, the mold, the trailer, etc. Definitely, not just a basically updated version for sure.
The new coronation Starscream also have some significant changes despite of the coronation parts.

Re: Transformers Masterpieces
I would keep them. They are both first edition releases i assume and would just reserve them as a keep sake. I have done the same with each and every one of my Takara editions. I personally don't collect the Hasbro versions except for a choice few. Maybe one day further down the road you with make a young relative extremely happy to be handed a MISB Takara bot that captures Prime and Screamer in their best form. Just saying....

Re: Transformers Masterpieces
Yep, that's good enough for me. I did buy Prime when it came out and payed $125 for it (Perfect Edition) and now it's like $400 or $500 and Screamer was $80 so yes I'll keep them, because there's no turning back if I decide to sell em.
The size on Prime doesn't bother me too much, but it has better color to it and mechanics.

Re: Transformers Masterpieces
MP-10 > MP-04
MP-11 > MP-03
That being said, if you are just keeping them MISB there really is no point in upgrading. At least with the Hasbro versions you can see inside the box.

This is precicely why you sell it instead. Use the money to fund your MP buys.

Re: Transformers Masterpieces
I toyed with off-loading my loose MP04 when I discovered MP10 is getting an NA release through Hasbro/TRU but I soon surmised that my MP05 Megatron would get lonely so I'll keep him and begrudgingly join the hunting frenzy for Hasbro MP10 when the time comes. I tend to collect in pairs so MP10 will likely share a shelf with my TRU MP Grimlock.
IMO, MP04 is the true Masterpiece whereas MP10 can be considered a 'masterpiece' in that it's big, beautiful and more play-friendly than its predecessor but really it's more of a "Ultra-Classics" or "Super Improved" version of G1 Optimus/Diaclone Convoy.
MP11 Screamer, on the other hand, looks like a direct improvement over MP03 so I'd go newer over older but the real question is whether you'd get a decent price for your MISB MP03 considering we'll see an eventual NA release of MP11 and no one may really want the older version anyore.
So...to summarize my long-winded diatribe: Definitely keep MP04, try to sell MP03 for a decent price (if you can) and buy both 10 and 11.

Re: Transformers Masterpieces
Keeping Takara MP03
Keeping Takara MP04
Keeping Hasbro Masterpiece Starscream
Getting Hasbro Masterpiece Optimus Prime (MP10)
Getting Hasbro Masterpiece Starscream (MP11) if it ever comes out.
edit:
Here's something from one of the other threads on this topic:

But then I can only dream.

It was rumoured in some circles that MP Prime was re-engineered because making an Ultra Magnus trailer for the original was too bulky, heavy, costly, and difficult. Lets hope we see my dream come to fruition.
