market for TreasureHunt finds?

So yesterday I popped into the local TreasureHunt, and hit basically a small motherload of finds

In order of "most frigged up packaging", with the caveat that all THunt items have that garish orange sticker on the box, and a big black marker line drawn across the barcodes:

ER OP (most frigged up)
ER Astrotrain
Kingdom core Starscream
ER voyager Starscream
ER Cliffjumper
ER Hoist (virtually pristine)

Despite the damaged packaging, all figs appear to be in fine shape inside

It got me thinking - these finds are such "flash in the pan" types, where you basically got to pounce cause it's likely the only time you'll see em

I thought "how prevalent is the non-MISB market", like people who open up their figs and/or don't care what quality the packaging is in, since figs are comin out anyway

I generally open all my figs, and figure there's prob a lot who do the same

Actually, thinking about it, I guess it's maybe barely a step above the "loose/complete" market

What is everyone's thoughts on the subject

Re: market for TreasureHunt finds?

For me, the packaging doesn't really matter, it's about the figure, it's condition and that it's not missing anything.

If I see a liquidation priced figure that I already have, if I really like it, or just that the price is really cheap, I'll grab it, if simply to have a spare should the one I have breaks, unless it's a "army builder" type (that's a given that I'll grab it).

If it's a figure that I hesitated on, it might be the break for me to get it.

Considering how nuts the prices have gone for so many figures, I hate even thinking of the after-pricing that could/will happen for some figures, and I'm paranoid about the breakage thing (and it actually had happened to me, and I was so freaking glad that I did have an extra of the figure).

I've never found a thing at my Treasure Hunt sadly but I'd pickup damaged box for cheap anyday.

Re: market for TreasureHunt finds?

Good topic and question, "imfallenangel" sums up my thoughts nicely! I'm trying to get better about caring less about the 'mainline' boxes, my new approach is to clearly distinguish boxes that would have 'noticable value' like MP, exclusives, etc. from those that are 'a dime a dozen'. That said, once in a while I dig the artwork so on rare occasions I can become picky with mainline.

But a deal is a deal is a deal!

Originally a US chain called "Dirt Cheap"
A lot like the old XS Cargo shops, where they hawk used/clearanced/returned goods from various stores (mostly WalMart)

Everything in the store has the original prices marked, and most everything cuts at least 50% off, sometimes more depending on the situation

They don't order stuff in, so you can't "count" on anything in steady supply - basically have to check often, and every now & then you find a sweet deal
