IDW TF comics questions

I read IDW TDoOP and currently reading RID and MTMTE, and I knew it that I would be confused as I am confused as I don't what's going on and what happened why are the Decepticons and Autobots not fighting, Dirge not welcomed and how and why was Ratbat named Leader and come Starscream is collaborating with the Autobots? I mean should I read everything from the very beginning and work my way to Windblade and Dawn of The Autobots? What do you guys recommend, suggest and opinions, on where to go.

I am confused!!!

Thanks

Re: IDW TF comics questions

War's been pseudo-over since All Hail Megatron. The Ongoing had skirmishes here and there but the first Ongoing ended with Megatron gone, a revitalized Cybertron (the planet was dead prior) and a mess of Decepticons who didn't want to keep fighting.

Ratbat basically seized leadership as nobody really challenged him for it, since Soundwave/Shockwave/Bombshell had their own plans anyway he was a good smokescreen. Back in the pre-war days he had been a powerful (and corrupt) senator.

Re: Dirge, it's less that he wasn't welcomed and more that he'd been ditched on Cybertron by his own side back in the setup to AHM; he's just plain sick of fighting at this point period and doesn't like anyone.

Well you're kinda hopping into the story midway by starting with TDoOP. I only started recently and powered my way through starting at the beginning with the -ations stuff.

Or you can just read the summaries on TFwiki, like I did. You encounter something you don't recognize, you just wiki it and it'll tell you what you need to know.
