My WIP Customs

Pretty much all of this stuff is WIP. I tend to get close to the end and... well... eventually I'll get them finished.

These are my early tries at modifying figures. I've learned that patience is important with this kind of thing.

Anyway, here was a classics Goldbug I worked on a last year (holy crap... I need to get on this). I still need to recast the head (the hobby shop where I bought the supplies was out last time I went), and add some touch-ups.

That's not half bad actually! Very impressive. Was it hard to disassemble Bumblebee completely?

It couldn't have been that bad if I managed to do it. I'm really still learning the assembly/disassembly thing -- I have my own custom movie battle damaged Jazz to proove it. I do recall slipping once or twice with the soldering iron (whoops).

The painted head in the photos was one of the prototype castings. Many air bubbles in some crappy spots. I think when I finally do get the head done, I will add more colour (similar to the cartoon version) vs the all gold version here.

Does anyone have casting/moulding tips?

Re: My WIP Customs

That looks really great already, Jourdo. Keep it up, I'd love to get one that looks that good but patience is not my best virtue.........

In response to JaySmith, he does come apart fairly completely just with a screw driver, sounds like Jourdo took a few steps past that though.

Re: My WIP Customs

Jourdo, is that tester model paint you used? Also did you use an air brush or a conventional brush? How long did it take that paint to dry? Thanks.

I could not find a colour in Testors that was what I wanted. I went down the craft section in Walmart and mixed up my own from the acrylics there. I wanted to try the air-brush, but I could not get the damn thing working. This was all done by brush. The paint dried fairly quickly (I honestly cannot remember). I still need the clear coat (now that I've learned about automotive paints, I'll be using the clear coat from that).

Yup, wax all the way. I use it all the time at work, so I find it very easy to work with. Easy to carve/shape/etc. It holds up well during the moulding process (the original is still intact, even after multiple times making the mould).
