Shopping in Japan: Transformers?

I have recently found out that I may be heading out to Japan for a two and a half week vacation. In case I do go, I was wondering if anyone can suggest shops that may sell some exclusives and such. I've heard that large camera stores (and Akihabara in general) are the best places to look, but I just wanted to confirm this. Thanks in advance!

Its not. It is one of the better places to find run of the mill stuff -but you can find some of that stuff in Asakusa at the big temple. not the temple itself but the stalls there carry tons of toys. There's a train line that is accessible at Shinjuku - i wish i still had a map handy - its like 5 stops max for this train line -like there's only 5 stops and at one of these stops its like toyland.. people go there to sell their old stuff etc. Bic Camera is your typical store -but don't expect to find anything great.
Oh and if you're in a hotel -lower floors... stay on the lower floors.

Thanks a ton! I'm not looking for anything too expensive, essentially a takara deluxe or two, so I should be able to find something without a relative problem.

Also, I plan to stay mostly in Ryokan.

Nice! Trains take you everywhere -though... and nothing is too expensive. lol Good places to eat and cheap - the Curry houses and some of the sit down diners. dirt cheap. $5 a meal and you are full and healthy, or Family MArt -great places to get food.

I'd suggest checking out regular Toys R Us stores in Japan. I know i saw a couple when I was there.

Ah Family Mart - my go-to haven in Japan and Korea.

I liked Akihabara! I found some crazy good stores there. It was cool to see the brick-and-mortar locations of some of the online retailers.

Re: Shopping in Japan: Transformers?

Here are some places you should try:

Mandarake in Akihabara and Nakano, the Nakano store is in a mall called Broadway (I believe) in it there are also some other toy stores. The one in Akihabara is a seven story building - it's called the Manadarake complex.

Yellow Submarine in Akihabara. It is near the train station in a six or seven story building. There are also some other stores there too.

There's also a toy store called Yamashiroya near Ueno Station, but they're also bit pricey.

Those are the main ones I can remember with Transformers, but in Akihabara there are a lot of little stores that sell all
sorts of toys you just need to go in and check.

Here is a link to HeroicDecepticons Blog, he goes in to some detail:

Other places that might interest you include:
Hot Toys flagship store Toy Sapien near Harajuku Station:

Bandai Museum - I've never been there myself but you could try Googling.

EDIT: Forgot to mention Yodobashi Camera, that's the huge electronics store near Akihabara Station. They also have one near Ueno station, but smaller and with less selecton.

Thanks for the intel, 3rdStryk! As luck would have it, my hotel in Tokyo happens to be in the Akihabara district!
