Poster Lightbox Build

I decided to use some of my scrap pine from building my cabinets to make a Poster lightbox. The result is below. Need to secure the wiring before hanging it, but it's looking pretty mint. I'll update tonight with some hanging images on the wall and the autobot symbol I did in a similar fashion.

For anyone interested, It's made of pine, 18 x 24 2" depth. Two Strips of LED's power the lights from flexfire LED, they are BRIGHT and work perfectly to showcase the image. The image itself is a backlit print. Normal posters work too but the colors get a little washed out. With a backlit print or a duratrans, you get a nice punch to the colors.

The back is lined with heat resistant foil tape which also bounces the light around. The frame is from walmart and sealed with plexi on the front and a thicker sheet of plexi behind the poster to diffuse the LED Lights for a more even spread.

If anyone is going to attempt this, use LED's that generate low heat, some of the rope LED's get quite hot.

Re: Poster Lightbox Build

These pictures make it look like the light is centered, but it actually disperses quite nicely across the entire poster.

Can I ask what is the purpose of the foil? Is it just to prevent overheating? LEDs don't heat up too much right?

Reflects the light back onto the poster. If you only had two strips of LED's then you would see only two strips of light and it wouldn't be uniform.

But with the foil it's actually reflecting the light that hits the back of the poster which is white. And that in turn reflects back into the poster making it brighter and more uniform.

Re: Poster Lightbox Build

Exactly it's to reflect the light. These LEDs do get hot but not fire hot. LEDs are only about 75 percentage efficient so they lose 25 through heat. Some are more efficient than others but for the most part LEDs are quite cool.
