I used to work for a shipping department at an electronics store, and I never left unopened boxes out like that precisely for that reason. When I took a box out, it was with the intention of putting it on the shelf asap. When employees do that sort of stuff, they have to expect people will root through it. It's become a common practice of mine as of late. I just make sure I take what I need, and don't make a giant mess of it.

Last year when I was first looking for Concept Camero BB, I was at a TRU with my girlfriend. There were a bunch of unopened boxes lying on the ground, and she suggested I just open them to see. I opened them all and managed to find one. Two seconds later, this six year old kid and his dad come through the isle. The father is pulling figures off the rack to show his son, who keeps saying, "No, that's not BB." So my girlfriend turns to me and suggests I give it to the kid. I thought about it for a moment, then said, "Nah. I think I'd get more out of it than he would." I then promptly walked away and paid for it. My girlfriend said I was a jerk, but at the time, I was a very happy jerk. Looking back on it now, I probably should have given it to the kid since those were so much easier to find later on.
Anyone else have a selfish collecting story?
|
When i first saw mine had no money and when i find the last one their was a kid and i decided to let the kid have it...it took me till the end of summer to find one.

Re: Most selfish collecting act...
Don't really have a selfish story... although I do have a feel bad story, dunno if it fits, but here goes.
I was at a Wal-Mart and was in buying mood, I'd snatched up to Movie Deluxes and a Voyager (the actual figures escape me). So here I am walking out of the toy section with my arms full, I walk up to the cash and the kid in front of me turns around freaks out when he sees I'm carrying three. He then starts asking his dad "why does he have three and I can't have one daddy?"... kinda felt bad. Poor kid!!
Oh well.

you could have fibbed and said it was your birthday....
you could have fibbed and said you were also buying for a couple of friends...
you could have said you worked really hard all week to afford them...
you could have said you did all your homework and ate all your vegetables and listened to your mommy and daddy all the time
i guess I could go on but I won't

Re: Most selfish collecting act...
I once snagged an Animated Jazz from the back of the top shelf. Obviously someone was trying to hide it, it wasn't even in the TF isle. I only caught "Trans" and used my manly arms to reach up and pluck it from it's hiding place. Last one, really good quality.
I wonder if the hider ever went back and wondered who took his/her Jazz?
But yeah, that's the closest thing to being a jerk I've ever done when colleting.
If the situation ever came up where me and a kid both wanted the same TF and there were no others, I would deffinatelty hand it over. I can always track one down some other time through a third party online store or something. I doubt the kid could.

Re: Most selfish collecting act...
This isn't exactly Transformers-related, but I hid a special edition Love-a-Lot Care Bear that came with the DVD of the first Care Bears episode ever behind a bunch of fisher price baby toys at TRU, hoping it would still be there after pay day.
It was!
My boyfriend just hid an Animated Grimlock behind a bunch of bargain toys at Wal-Mart yesterday. *sigh* Maybe next week ...
