Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

Well technically, my understanding is that they buy stuff from a charity to sell. So in a round-about way, take away over head, and all the money the bring in goes to said charity.

I don't think that's the way it works. It's like a normal business. They make a profit. For example they buy something from a charity for $3 and they sell it for $10. After they pay their bills of say $5, what's left goes into their pockets.

Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

I worked at Value Village once. The people in the back set the prices. I worked in the electronics; basically all I did all day was plug shit in to make sure it worked, assess it's over all condition and then give it whatever price I deemed appropriate.

You actually tested the stuff? Wow, that was a good store you worked for.

Ours flat out refuses, saying they get too many electronics to test everything, and you're purely buying at your own risk (they have outlets, but it's hard to tell if a DVD player is working just by plugging it in...).

Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

They are totally a for profit business who donates a certain amount to charity for things that are donated.

They do have toys from time to time in their displays but sometimes, as in this case, they are just completely out to lunch.

They will sell them eventually, but they will likely end up cutting the price significantly, or repacking them two to a bag and selling them for like $10 per bag or something. I've seen them do it before when something in their display won't sell.

I don't think it is unreasonable for them to make a good return on collectibles that are of some value. But I do think it is pretty silly for them to attempt to rip off customers by claiming knowedge of something they clearly know nothing about.

I hope no one gets taken in by the woman's story. Many of the same figures were for sale 3/$12 at the last toy show here in Winnipeg.

I just picked up HFTD Jetblade and some PCC drones, but my favourite was Alternators Sunstreaker only missing his left foot and gun, but it was only 2.99.

Re: Value Village: what are your Transformers findings?

WTF is the pricing at your VV so low?

Those $1.99 bags would have been $4.99+ at my nearest location...
