This really has nothing to do with g1 prices, rarity, congdon, completeness, etc play a huge role. There's no way I'd use generations trailbreaker to replace the g1,

My personal preference is g1 and mp. I'll get some classics here and there, but they're not a priority, and lesser molds I've sold off,

It all comes down to what you like g1 is challenging and fun to collect, official classics, you can get most of them for under a grand total. Mps, are great, but they'll cost

For lists, www.tfw2005.com has a pretty robust resources section. Tfu.info has an incomplete (pictures wise) list,

The TF Wiki is a good source of info too, and it's also entertaining.

Re: Help a new "collector" get started...

Thanks for all the great responses.... I'll use those resources for my research.

I am not looking to collect for investment. Mainly for fun, and to let my little kids play with.

So far, I like the movie-based Transformers and those are what I have the most of. But I also like the Cybertronian series, and the new FOC series, as they are realistic and gritty. On the flip side, I like the Animated series, as they are unique and have an organic feel.

I think I will build my collection via the used forums and go from there... and add some new items when there is a good sale.

I'll stay away form the "high-end" and G1 stuff due to costs and availability reasons.

"You have taken your first step into a larger world". Figure out what you want, make a list, and post. Most of the people on this board are exceptional at helping out the new guy. We were all there at one point.

Post a list, I have a few of those figures that I might get rid of.
