Funny story: I asked my friend at ILM Vancouver for "spoilers" last February and he was like "Everyone dies!!!...oops, just kidding."
Then after the staff screening last Wednesday night I turned to him and was like "Holy shit, you weren't kidding!" and he said "You asked for it ."

I will definitely go watch it again in IMAX...maybe on Jan 1 or 2.
Oh Amazon finally shipped my copy of The Art of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Should arrive by Friday.

I would agree with this statement. Surprisingly, for a spin off movie, the characters were more memorable and impactful to me than some of the main characters in the prequel trilogy. All acting was well done. And no corny Jar Jar humor. K2's humor was appropriate and well placed.
It, however, didn't feel like a true Star Wars Saga movie. But I think that's what they were going for. The music just didn't pack that same epic feeling. But still a great Star Wars movie.

Re: Star Wars Discussion (Ep 7, Rogue One, Rebels & More!)
Thoughts after my third flight aboard Rogue One, last night in IMAX 3D:
My new ranking is ESB, ANH, R1, TFA then ROTJ.
ROTS, AOTC and TPM are all still in last place.
Felicity Jones was alright, but Daisy's charisma stills wins.
Personally, I would have built my castle somewhere nicer, rather than on the volcanic planet your mentor dismembered you then left you to burn to death. But hey...so cool to see McQuarrie's concept art from ESB come to life.
The climactic space battle is a must see in IMAX 3D.

Re: Star Wars Discussion (Ep 7, Rogue One, Rebels & More!)
The whole castle scene was utterly pointless to advance the movie and I could have done away with the vader pun. Speaking of bad puns, from what I gather, there's more to the castle that meets the eye, and will likely have a tie-in (another bad pun) with VIII. That's my theory.

Agreed. The castle was pointless to the story but it added layers to Vader.
Until that scene I always imagined Vader just chilled on the DL in his Sith Kinder Egg chamber.
To have it canonized that he practically lived in a bacta tank in his castle built upon the planet (or perhaps even the site) he was "born" was fan service done right.

I wonder if it was intentional that they did not explicitly name that planet was Mufasa...

You meant Mustafar, right?
Pablo Hidalgo confirmed on Twitter that Mustafar was not named (like all the other planets in R1 had onscreen text naming them) as an artistic move by Gareth Edwards.

Re: Star Wars Discussion (Ep 7, Rogue One, Rebels & More!)
Possible spoilery bits ahead turn back or proceed at your own risk.
Been thinking about it a bit more, and think they were a few character development moments away from absolutely hitting the bulls-eye. As is, it feels like the characters relationships are slightly underdeveloped.
For example, maybe I didn't catch it, but why did Chirrut Îmwe and his buddy stick around after Jeda? It was just like he jumped into help Jen, and the next thing we know they're following her around and calling her little sister.
I mean, yeah, they're good guys, but still need a reason.
And Jen's relationship with her father. You could see it was there, but they just needed a little more IMHO to drive it home.
