Re: ebgames preorder for the new masterpiece Optimus prime.

MP-44 surely made the $900 Lego Millennium Falcon look relatively affordable.

What makes you think TRU would charge any less? This isnt like Hasbro MP releases of the past, it wont even have a different box. Its just the Takara release distributed by hasbro, using the same Takara MSRP of 50000 Yen.

Precisely. TRU didn't charge any less for MP-10. He was about $250.00 initially, which was the same price as Japan's Takara MP-10. Also, EB Games is pricing MP-44 at $600.00 CAD, so that's a good indication of how most Canadian retailers will price it as well.

MP 10 was never $250 at TRU Canada. I paid less than $100 on a 30% off sale.

The 2017 hasbro release of MP-10 was $229.99 CDN plus 13% tax.

Exactly, so almost $250.00 CAD with tax.

Re: ebgames preorder for the new masterpiece Optimus prime.

If retail really does try for $600 + tax, it will be interesting to see how many they sell. Also how fast they will drop the price after release if they aren't selling.

I can see Hasbro dipping their toes into this price range, especially after Jabba's Sail Barge for $750 this past year. However I think it is a whole different ballgame expecting retail to move units at this price than a direct to collectors sale like Jabba's Sail Barge.

I guess the only "good" thing, and I use the term loosely, about the price, if true, is that scalpers who swoop in early will probably be left holding expensive stock no one will pay their stupid mark up prices for MP-44.

Definitely the price will drop... ... I would expect at least 50% off.

Re: ebgames preorder for the new masterpiece Optimus prime.

i just don't get the price on this.

is it substantially bigger than mp-10?

I remember 119.99 for the original TRU MP-10....though I guess USD/CAD$ was a little more favorable then.

I guess the last MP Megatron wasn't that much less.

But this is an insane price I just can't justify based on what I'm seeing.

Am I missing something?

Parts count. It's why MP Sunstreaker is so much more expensive than all the other carbots.
