Re: Planning for 2012
Over your travel and hotel costs bring $2000 more dollars.
Once you start to mention sight seeing and such your going to need a lot more $$$$$$.

Re: Planning for 2012
No harm in planning early. I'm trying to get to both Botcon and TFCon this year, but will depend on where botcon is held, hopefully it is announced soon. As for TFCON, I only live about 3 hours away so it's always do-able.

Cost of Hotel per night 123.17 x 4 492.68
Cost of Food per day 50 x 5 250.00
Taxi fare per ride 30 x 2 60.00
Tickets for TFcon 45 each x 2 90.00
Total 1804.02
As an average we would need to put away $50 every pay right up to the pay of the Convention. That way we come out with some spending money. So totally do able. Just need to see what I want to bring as a budget for spending in the Parts Trade Room and Vendor Room.
What do you guys say is an average amount to bring? 300,500,700 or more?

Re: Planning for 2012
I too am planning on hitting up on of the two big cons and wanted to plan it as early on as you. I'm thinking of going with the other montrealers and splitting gas with em.
Sounds like a solid plan, you may want to try the same.

Re: Planning for 2012
I understand everyones idea about driving up to montreal then onward. However we (me and amanda) have two factors that are againts us. Primarly We don't want to take the extra time off to drive up and drive back.
As we want to spend that time in Ontario with family etc. Secondly, due to this being a personal vacation we were not looking to lower our overal travel expenses by sharing the cost with other people going to the con. Gas or what ever it might be, etc. It just makes it to complicated to try an arrange mutual travelling. Also we would be abandoning them somewhere in ontario for atleast a few days before the con starts. If anything we would rather use the Go transit system vs driving through the Toronto area. Just easier for what we want to do.
Also, its Never to early to plan. Especially, with the fact I'm not sure If i'm going to have a job next summer. If I'm going to beable to go to TFcon i'm going to have to save now. Already looking for a new job.
Its the experince of meeting all you guys and going to the convention, finding the toys. I'm looking forward to. If it wasn't for that, I'd being going to Halifax or Bangor and spend like maybe 1000 including Gas, Hotels, Food. Then go as normal and buy my stuff online. But this is a community experince I'm really pumped to have. The ablity to shake the hand, have a beer with, shoot a couple laughts with the people i've trade with and conversed with on this site.
It might seem a little exteme the way i'm talking. However, thats who I am.

Re: Planning for 2012
Sorry, just noticed this thread... If you're from Saint John, may I humbly suggest flying out of Halifax instead of Saint John? Sure, you'd spend a few bucks to drive here, but tickets to TO are a heckuva lot cheaper. I spent about $250-300 round trip this year. (90 one way, 115 back, plus airport fees). Just wait for seat sales. Unless it's going to cost more than $300 round trip from Saint John, it'd save you a few bucks.
