Number of decepticons to number of Autobots ratio

You ever wonder why did the writers of some shows, like RID, Energon, Cyberton, ends up having the decepticons be way outnumbered by Autobots? That's very unfair don't you think? What's up with that?

Perhaps it is to make the Decepticons seem more badass since they can hold their own ( for a while) against overhelming odds.

I think it's because usually Decepticons travel as a group or in teams, while Autobots act more like scouts, and usually cannot move as quickly.
And drones filled out the ranks

Another theory is that the Decepticons are generally stronger, which would mean it would require more Autobots to topple them.

By drones they usually mean all those miscellaneous seekers, both the regular conehead ones, and later on the scourge-type ones. They would put as many as they needed to fill in the scene (in G1 anyways). Sometimes they're coloured differently than the regular voiced characters, other times they aren't, they're just coloured the same.

So because of this they don't look like the Decepticons look like they have more troops, but truth is they don't have as many named characters.

That said, Transformers are one of the relatively few major product lines out there in which the bad guy toys are as widespread as they are, and sell as well as they do - only in a select few other franchises, such as Mobile Suit Gundam, is this also the case.
