Toysrus new price match policy

Dropped by TRU yesterday, noticed a sign saying about their new price match policy...something like they will match other retailers' flyer price plus 10% off. Does any of you notice this or try it?

I think there were a few posts on a previous thread on how to do Price matching w/ TRU, and not many positive/successful attempts. They need to see an actual flyer/ad of the competitior's prices or call up an actual branch, which is really time consuming and difficult, especially of the TRU CSR give you attitude or does a poor job verifying the competitior's price.

This is the way I was told how the new price matching works at TRU (I'm an employee)

-The customer must have the ad at the time of purchase and preferably the whole ad and not just a page, to verify dates.

-When TRU phones the other store, they MUST be in stock for you to get the price match.

-If the above are all good, The price will be matched the 10% difference will be given in the form of a Gift Card. This gift card can ONLY be created by a manager therefore, one will be needed to finish up the transaction.

I've seen this done in my department (R-zone) successfully but they were for minor purchases like a boardgame, so I dont know how it will go for big ticket items.


Here are some tips/warnings on how to get this done

-A weekend is probably the worst possible time because all stores are packed, busy and understaffed

-I was told that if the price diff is a few bucks, to not bother calling the other retailer because it takes to much time.

-If the other retailers ad begins on the very day you bring it into TRU, they may not bother calling. For example, one weekend, the store director said, we wont bother calling till 11 or noon cause our competitors would probably still have stock till then.

In short
-Do it early in the morning
-Be prepared to wait
-Make sure the wait is worth it.
-be prepared to have the ire of the other customers/staff for holding up the entire line.

Heh. So in other words, they don't really want our business that badly... geez, it sounds like getting a price match is a real pain in the ass.

For the sake of a mere 10%, in most cases I'd be happy to just buy my stuff at the other store, avoid the hassle, and TRU won't see any of my money.

Agree, I experienced the hassle dark_rage was mentioning. I thought it is something TRU trying to do to 'gain' their customers back. In this case, if it continues to be a hassle, TRU will surely won't be getting my money. If the competitor has stock, why bother buying it from TRU.
