Concern regarding yugioh card changing names

Hello yugioh fans. Does everyone remember how translators change the art and name of the cards to make it appropriate throughout the years? I wonder if 4kids had a hand in it?

I want to draw people's attention that in the future release of Extreme Victory TCG, they will change the machine emperors to Meklord Emperors and Machine Imperial soldiers to Meklord army. They will also change Tech Genus to T.G. It is 100% stupid and I wonder what in the world they are thinking?! The names are appropriate and they screwed them up! It is fine if they change names that has anything religious, but there is nothing wrong with Machine being used as part of the names for the Emperors, same thing with Tech Genus for T.G.. I got this information from Yugioh wiki. I hope that doesn't come true in the actual release? Who agrees with me?

Re: Concern regarding yugioh card changing names

It is very possible that a name change, such as these have something to do with a copywrite issue. I'm sure you have seen many Transformer name changes which make NO sense. 99% of the time, these Transformers get the name change because of a liscensing issue. It's the reason why Jazz is called Autobot Jazz.

Sometimes there is more than meets the eye (hah..) behind these changes. 4kids isn't involved, it's all to do with the makers of the cards, their translating department, their legal department, and marketing department.

Of course, It is possible that they are just screwing with you, just cause they know people nerdrage over stuff like this

Thanks for the info and the comfort. I thought so too that they are just screwing with me, but I am also worrying about rumors spreading about the confirmed names of Meklord on Youtube. Of course it could also be untrue too. I hope that they were just screwing with me and it turns out untrue though.

Yeah. Sounds like they want to create trademarkable terms to me so that they have intellectual propertly.

Using the term "Machine Emperor" is too generic to be protected, I think.

I agree that Machine Emperor is too generic to be protected. Which is a very good reason why the translators should leave it alone for printing. If that is not even possible for them to do it, then they should at least reprint more cards of those Machine Emperor related-cards with original names.

Man we lost using ANYKIND of Jazz back in 2003-2004 because of the WWE/WWF. They had a black female wrestler named Jazz and her figure was all over the place, thus why we didn't even have Autobot Jazz, we had Meister (for the Alternator release)

Really. Bummer. Sorry to hear that. I wonder whether lots of people get mad at copyright laws for ruining the names of characters or the shows they love? Like when the name Shockblast is used in Energon due to copyright law concerning Shockwave. I am sure lots of people get made when shows are taken off of Youtube due to copyright laws.

Ummm. Not the same thing there, buddy.

One is when a company owns the rights to a name for X amount of years, thus another entity cannot use the same name.
The other is about piracy of copyrighted intellectual material. There's a BIG difference there.

You're confusing "trademark" with "copyright", and then you're (perhaps unintentially) saying that copyrights are bad for piracy?

Funny story, back when Micheal Bay was talking about using Tidal Wave in ROTF, he was told Hasbro didn't have the rights to the name anymore, I looked it up back then and it seems Swiffer (the mop/broom company) has a mop called "Tidal Wave" now. Funny how this all works.

Really? That is funny and sad at the same time. I really hope that the Translators leave Machine Emperors and machine Imperial soldiers alone for north american release or shame on them. Does anyone agree that changed English translated names are usually inferior compared to the original japanese names?
