Display question building bleachers.

Hi guys.

I'm in the process of rearranging my collection. I'm looking for some sort of material to build tiers out of that is light but uniform in color. Been looking for some sort of foam blocks or something that I can cut to a length that I need. Preferably something inexpensive and not too difficult to find. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

You can buy foam insulation for pretty cheap. You can find it at Rona or Home Depot.

The cheapest I've found is to cut and paint 2X4's yourself. All you need is a saw to cut the wood.

Worked great for me.

Re: Display question building bleachers.

i got tired of rearranging my kids megablocks. that's what i used as bleachers. you can't see the multicoloured blocks once the bots are there. after running out of megablocks, i used my wife's old cassette tapes.

Sometime the dollar stores have risers or you can go to places like Staples and ask them to put aside packing foam for you. They get tons of that stuff and toss it all out. Just get a bin or something and give it to them and ask them to toss their foam into it.

I use all my old vhs tapes! If your worried about weight you can open them up and get rid of the internals. Best of all everybody is looking to get rid of them now!

I used the foam bricks for floral arrangements. They are very light weight and and are about the same size as a real brick. You can pick em up at craft stores fairly cheap in bundles of 5.

Re: Display question building bleachers.

I used "Foam Core", available at Michaels and other typical craft stores, sometimes dollar stores (for a $1) or for the good stuff, go to an art store.

Any way a bit of handywork with a ruler, and Olfa knife and some hot glue and you get a SATURATED shelf of TFs.

Because they are hollow underneath, it's a great place to store boxes and/or accessories...

Here's a small one from my side-shelf up close, without TFs on it:

Foam core is about 0.25" thick, cuts beautifully and is available in white, black and all sorts of colors. The surfaces are paper, so it's more fragile than wood...but the cost is a fraction and no saws required!

I used hot glue to hold it together. In some cases I simply 'scored' one side of the foam core and bent it into a zig-zag shape.

Best of all it's light as a feather and sturdy too...
