Toyworld Devy Thoughts
So I'm finding myself contemplating a change of Devy now that I've had a chance to look over the new Toyworld version online. I currently have Hercules (no rage add on) and I'm curious if a switch is in order. I've enjoyed my Hercules since I first opened and combined them but I am a fan of G1 visually accurate(ish) figures. Accurate to my memories of the 80s cartoon that is. Though Hercules is big and sturdy I'm looking at the Toyword Devy and thinking "that looks a little more like Devastator". I admit I don't have any Toyworld members in my display so I'm not sure on quality, transformation and such so I look to you my Cybertronian friends to discuss your thoughts on the MP scale Devy's out there.
Please note I do not have CW Devy as I just don't find him asteticly please as most have. But I will give a thumbs up on the initiative Hasbro and Takara took with the set.
The floor is yours folks, Toyworld Devy what do you think

Re: Toyworld Devy Thoughts
I think it looks horrible, can't believe there is a Devastator that I think looks worse than Hercules which was my vote for worst Devastator. Big head with a tiny face, way too skinny and lanky. I'll stick with my takara unite warriors with pe upgrade and Maketoys green giant.

I hold same opinion as you until today saw these pictures, I think it looks better and better now, at same level as CW/UW Dev, just different styles.
I won't buy it because I already have TFC, MT and CW dev, but I still like it.
The last pic is UW Dev + XS upgrade kit, which i think looks great too.

Re: Toyworld Devy Thoughts
It's a pretty nice set, but I find it a bit "CHUG" to be truly MP-style. Don't get me wrong, I love CHUG... But this seems to have one foot in both styles (scale is MP, detailing is more CHUG).
I can't help but feel like most of the folks buying him as an MP Devastator will be replacing him with an FT MP Devastator in a couple years.
Now, I won't say any of this over in the TFW thread... I'd get ripped to shreds. They do NOT like criticism.

in toyworld's defense, i think the head design is based off studio ox's devy design. just like carry's design is from studio ox's rodimus prime design. though i agree that proportions is a bit off, mainly the bulky forearms
just a personal taste i guess, and i dont think toyworld has stated that they are making this a MP G1-cartoon accurate, did they?

Yeah it is Studio Ox design but saying that sounds like saying it is an official design so it is automatically good.

well i never said it's good or bad; just a personal taste thing as i already wrote. just mentioning the reasoning behind the not-so-conventional head design, thats all

Re: Toyworld Devy Thoughts
I like their individual bot designs. I have the MT and CW Devastators, but I'm thinking of getting them just because of their individual bot mode because, so far, they look decent... except for Mix Master, his face looks all screwed up. I'm waiting for the rest to be coloured so I can make a decision then. I think their combined mode looks too much like TFC and I don't really like the look of it. If I was going to get a mp devastator besides CW, I might have tried Generation Toys, but I feel their individual bot modes are weak, but I like Devastator Mode. Looks a lot like MT Green Giant.
If FT is really making the Constructicons, I'd be all over that because I'm an FT fanboy.

Re: Toyworld Devy Thoughts
To my eyes, the CW has the most G1 accurate heads and bot modes.
Now there is a lot to be desired when it comes to overall heft, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The lighter bots means that CW Devy is really steady and the joints can hold the weight of pretty much any pose.
And lets not mention CW elbows.
As for the Toyworld design. It's nice, but to me it's not even close to the G1 cartoon in terms of looks.
Now this isn't to say it doesn't look nice, but the overall aesthetic doesn't tickle my G1 fancy. To me, it feels like an upgraded Hercules.
