Why was Mixmaster changed?
Have they said?
Now, for the record, I really have no problem with it, it doesn't bother me. But I have to wonder why they went so far to make the other 5 Constructicons so G1, but completely changed just one of them. It's weird.
I almost think that they did it just to fuck with us! Because I can't really think of any other reason.

Re: Why was Mixmaster changed?
Just like why were Alpha Bravo, Offroad, and Rook added to their respective teams. The other four members for each team are perfect and great representations of their G1 counterparts and yet they decided to throw in some curveballs.
At least the upcoming Bruticus is almost perfect, except for Blast Off being a jet.

Re: Why was Mixmaster changed?
What's wrong with Mixmaster? Is it the front vs. back loading thing?

They took a 5 team set and managed to sell 6 different figures for it, it generated extra revenue. Then when they needed to make the mould for the next set of figures (Defensor), they already had the mould for one of the figures (Alpha Bravo - Blades). It lowers production costs and maximizes profit. It was part of their release plan from the beginning. Right now the outstanding member is Rook and he'll be one of the figures from the next combiner.
Alpha Bravo -> Blades -> Defensor
Off Road -> I forget -> Defensor
Rook -> something -> knee bone -> something -> red thing -> wristwatch

Yeah, it doesn't look 'G1' enough when compared to the other 5 members.

That sort of makes sense. My personal preference (not that Hasbro cares) would have been two Aerialbots (Fireflight & Skydive) and two Stunticons (Dragstrip & Deadend) in the first wave. And the same distribution of teams in the second wave. That way Slingshot and Wildrider could have been added to the second wave (along with Breakdown & Air Raid) without any need for new molds.
Maybe I'm wrong but I'm seeing a lot of Alpha Bravos and especially Offroads shelfwarming in the GTA.

Re: Why was Mixmaster changed?
Maybe Hasbro will reveal at NYCC the "perfect " Mixmaster to suck another $30 + tax from us.

Re: Why was Mixmaster changed?
I think it's a scale issue. The new team is from GI Joe, where I think they give a shit about scale (unlike most TF fans ), so this new Mixmaster model fits better with the other vehicles. Look at the size of windows and doors on all the figures and you'll see what I mean.
The new Dr Wu figure looks out of scale now because of it. Whether that matters or not really depends on the person.
