Re: New trade agreement 150 dollars allowed per transaction!
Everyone remember this is not a done deal yet. The details still have to be finalized, and all 3 countries have to ratify it as well.
Barring any issues, if the deal is enacted, the limit will probably not go into effect until next year.
Overall though it is good news if it comes to pass as a limit of $20 was utter garbage.

Do you mean no import or duty fees up to $150 in value? i.e. I buy $100 worth of transformers from Amazon.com and do not have to worry about duty?

Correct - about 115 USD aka 150 CAD duty free - but as stated above, it likely won't be in place until spring/summer next year

This is only for online orders right? If I physically go to the US, it's a different set of rules I think.

Bringing stuff home from the USA allows for certain amounts based on how long you are there. I think it is 200 cdn for 24 hours, 800 for 48 hours. But these have changed enough over the years that I’m not sure what the current numbers are.

I believe these are still the current nunmbers. The border officers are usually not that strict on the time. For example, you can bring in $200 just stay over night at US, doesn't have to be exactly over 24 hours --- explained to me by a border officer once.

Unfortunately, that's not what the changes mean.
"Canada agreed to raise the threshold for applying duties to cross-border purchases, a key demand from the U.S. Canada’s new so-called de minimis level will be C$150 ($117) for customs duties, up from C$20 now, and C$40 for sales taxes"

Re: New trade agreement 150 dollars allowed per transaction!
Thread starter here - it matters to me because now i can set items not available from Canadian retailers that I couldn't before bc it was cost prohibitive .. like Amazon.com exclusives etc .. and please dont respond with an idiosyncratic story of how you or someone you know finds a way to get them for a good price bc no one cares.. as a matter of fact if we could just stop posting idiosyncratic stories about buying anything would be great
