Re: Sending Payment Through PayPal As Gift

That's weird. I did it 3-4 weeks ago and didn't have fees when paying from a bank account.

Re: Sending Payment Through PayPal As Gift

I really only use Paypal to pay for online-store stuff, payments to my proxy-buyer, or eBay.

Most of my other transactions these days are primarily with fellow Canadians from various forums that I know are longtime members, and can thus be trusted. I usually offer to send via Interac e-mail money transfer; fees are significantly less than Paypal's anyways.

Re: Sending Payment Through PayPal As Gift

Paypal is owned by eBay and has been for some time. So welcome to the fee parade Remember that "don't buy stuff off of eBay" people say or tell us, well they're coming for us, lol. If the fees start to outweigh what the bank charges for an email money transfer, consider that an option if you trust whom your dealing with otherwise local deals and toy shows may become the way to go.

Re: Sending Payment Through PayPal As Gift

I had this happen once to me in the past. But just once. I don't know if it has to do with that person receiving too many gifts, or you sending too many gifts.

But it was weird to see the charge. It definitely wasn't on my CC.

Re: Sending Payment Through PayPal As Gift

You should never send money as a gift, Paypal won't help you if you get scammed.

While I 100% agree with you. I think a trusted seller with flawless feedback can get a gift.

I wish there were better ways to send money and be protected.

I wonder if those Chase direct payment things have fees and if they protect you.

Re: Sending Payment Through PayPal As Gift

Yeah, if you've traded, brought from them before. But I know from Monster High selling, if anyone even with great feedback asks for money as a gift, it is nope nope nope, nothing for you. Besides, a good seller should charge you the paypal fee when you make a purchase instead of requesting a gift. So many people get scammed that way because scammers know Paypal won't do a thing for you while they take your money and don't send product.

Definitely.

I guess I have been lucky in my transactions in the past. I have seen a couple of guys get ripped off though even with good members.

I don't know. 4% fee is kinda high for PayPal. Those add quickly. I just did a $400 deal for 5 headmasters. The guy swalled $16 on pay pay fees.

That's pretty good for PayPal really not doing much. I wonder how much fraud goes on.

PayPal's profit margins must be through the roof.

Don't you need a registered/official mailing address (tied in with your bank account or credit card) to be able to send and receive money on PayPal?

They can easily identify who is from where with that information.

I don't know how much of it effects the Transformers community but the Monster High one, it's ridicilous. The sad thing, that the majority of scammers are mid aged men and the ones being scammed are parents with little girls.
