Re: Takara's Masterpiece Line direction taking a dive?
Well, I was fine with it until they stated just variations on the one design.
If it were a Masterpiece version of each and every Prime and leader, that'd be insanely awesome. And then maybe throw in a few more primes for good measure. Like some that never had toys.
There's enough Prime content for this, but not in a single sculpt for years.
- Optimus Prime (Red cab) comes with a gray trailer and g1 accessories
- Nemesis Prime (Black cab) comes with a black trailer and g2 accessories, include stickers to make him Scourge, Nucleon Prime, G2, etc.
- Ultra Magnus (White cab) comes with a transformable armour trailer in Ultra Magnus colours.
- Nucleon Optimus Prime (translucent red cab) comes with a transformable armour trailer in black.
- Power Prime (light red cab decoed and resculpted as Ginrai) comes with a transformable armour trailer in diaclone/powermaster colours that match regular Optimus Prime release (because we all know that's who the trailer is going to anyways).
Shattered Prime (Purple cab) comes with a transformable armour trailer in purple
See? with the right planning, people have to buy more than 1 to get the version they want. 5 reasonable releases of the same sculpt or repaints. Hell, throw in the diaclone one and make it 6. Then have SG Prime, which would be an exclusive anyways.
Want Powermaster Optimus Prime? Gotta buy Optimus and Powered. Want Nemesis with armour? Gotta buy Nucleon and Nemesis Prime. Want Ultra Magnus? Well you lucked out and only have to buy one.
I guess the only oddball figure would be the translucent Optimus Prime, which in itself is still pretty cool. And then Ginrai.... he can just kinda stand somewhere else since he isn't a true Prime.
But anyways, after that, people won't really feel the desire to buy anymore repaints.
They aren't collectable vinyl figures from vending machines.
