Do some collectors scare you

I have been asked if I go to the TFcon on numerous occasions and my response has usually has been, "meh a little to much reality for me"

I find it extremely strange for a bunch of adults sitting in a room listening to other adults talk about plastic toys.
I am one of those that keeps my crazy hobby to myself and actually have started caring less and less about this plastic addictions. For me to many people are like hoarders, overweight, no life, etc

Sure I like collecting but to me it would be less eerie for zombies chasing me down a street. Its a little unnerving that adults take this hobby a little to seriously

What are your thoughts

1) If you think that all attendees are hoarders/overweight/no life, then you CLEARLY don't have the proper perspective. Yes, there are definitely people like that, but the majority of attendees are just normal people.

2) If you're really keeping this hobby to yourself, then what do you do here on forums? To the majority of the people I hang out with at TFCon, it's essentially just an extension of this forum: we chat about toys sometimes, but a lot of times, it's just a bunch of people hanging out. It's not ALWAYS about the toys/fiction/whatever.

Re: Do some collectors scare you

So would you be more comfortable sitting around people who talk about soap operas, sports, cars, the latest fashion trend, the latest detail from a reality show, etc etc etc?

I may be boarder line hoarder-ish...but I think don't think one who is 5' 7" and 140 lbs is overweight.

"Too much reality?" Isn't enjoying and talking about Transformers related stuff an "escape from reality"?

The boards do.

So far, the ones I've met don't take stupid shit like FIRBIR waaaay too seriously. Some, if not most of the boards has to be taken lightly, almost jokingly.

You'll even see me almost buying Beast Wars stuff. That Optimus Primal got away though.

Don't know about TO, Transbot, from what I've heard, is a huge burly guy almost ressembling a grizzly bear. He was last seen devouring 3rd party table never to be seen in person again.

Re: Do some collectors scare you

so you consider yourself an elitest collector putting yourself above other collectors well maybe you should go out to one of these and meet some people of the community cause let me tell you there may be some weird people out there but in a seriousness if you talked to them you find out that they are just people that love collecting

Last time when I was at the convention I saw a very intent crowd watching a G1 cartoon. Really?
Then people who are 400lbs overweight wearing faction logos looking for toys, and finally people with transformer tattoos. Really. To me that spells wierdo. But hey I don't expect you to agree with me. I know it may not fit to your tastes but they are my view on things. And as to your question what am I doing here. Well like you said not talking about toys and every once in a while painting a shitty toy cause im friggen bored and its raining outside.

that's an oxy-morron. Elitist toy collector. Yeah I guess. Whatever that means. I am not saying of course all are wierdos. But I have met some outstanding business like people who look very professional and made an impression on me and looked like they werent going to talk to me about their train sets in their basement

Re: Do some collectors scare you

Sounds to me like you went there expecting to see something and that just what you saw.

Sure there are people there like that, but the other 98% are perfectly normal.

Why would you start a discussion like this in the first place? Clearly you want to stir up some drama. You did say you were bored after all.
