Re: RiD episodes 1 and 2

Let me just say, I am quite pleased to see what I feel is an homage to the BW Golden Disk in the first few minutes of this show. Each groove representing the orbit of a planet in our galaxy, essentially acting as a map to earth, even if in a ceremonial kind of way.

And those guards' color scheme is a little reminiscent of Tankor.

True or not, all good discussion material for my channel.

Re: RiD episodes 1 and 2

Episode 3? Eh, not bad. Steeljaw is a really interesting character. I can't wait to see where they go with him. Assuming he doesn't ditch the whole "peaceful" thing by the next time we see him. But who know? He could be the next BW Megatron if they play him right.

Also surprised Grimlock is still sporting Decepticon badges. I thought for sure they would have made him an Autobot by now. Eh. Maybe it's the next one or so. Whenever it is that he pretends to be a truck like in the teaser trailer. They'll probably make a big deal out of it and devote a whole episode to it. "Does he deserve to be an Autobot? What did he do to get locked up? Has he repented his sins? Has he taken enough steps? Has he said 25 Hail Marys?" Blah, blah, blah.

Re: RiD episodes 1 and 2

Really enjoyed all three episodes. Was really lots of fun. Props for not having a human hostage situation and having the kid actually be useful.

Minor spoiler for ep 3.

But how can you say anything bad about an episode that has a Dinobot surfing on a Sharkicon's back. Hhahaha.

Re: RiD episodes 1 and 2

I like it.

I like it a lot.

2 key secrets to it's success.

The use of cel shading over pure CG led to more facial expressions thus the characters can emote better in scenes.

The 2nd is character dynamics. One of TF: Prime's biggest flaws was that the Autobots consisted of "One character that was only speechs" (Prime), "One character that was only negativity (Ratchet), and one that didn't talk (Ratchet). Now yeah there was nothing wrong with Bulkhead and Arcee, but with only 2 Autobots initially that can TRULY interact, the dynamic of the show and character development was stagnant.

This is a nice change to have a full cast that TALKS and has their own quirks and personalities to play off of, and Steeljaw is a nice change of a head baddie.

If I had one complaint it's the scale of the "containment" that was out of wacky. Grimlock was TINY in his containment unit when Underbite was "biting down" on it, then he was HUGE out of it. Same goes for Hammerstrike, in that little containment barrel, he was as big as FixIt in Grimlock's arms. Again, small things that don't really matter to the big picture

Just keep Optimus Prime out of most of the series and we are good to go.

Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality of the show, overall great thus far (Story, VA, Animation, Characters, etc.)! It makes buying the simplified toys all that much easier

Let's just hope they make a better Steel Jaw and Underbite figures to match their awesome animation models and characters!

Some simple thoughts on the characters thus far:
Bumble Bee - likable mature heroic leader
Strong Arm - adorable by the books keener
Sideswipe - likable rambunctious asshat
Underbite - hilarious insane egomaniac
Steel Jaw - charming beast with a heart of coal
Grimlock - punchy meathead
Hammer Strike - hotheaded egomaniac
Fix It - stuttering insecure likable loner
Optimus Prime - Obi-wannabe
Grim Bee - mysterious
Son Rusty - useful
Dad Denny - hipster retroactivist

Why did you list this one? He's hardly "mysterious" and just Sideswipe.

Not really feeling this show yet. Gonna give it a try first. So far...eh.
