Tempting even though I already have the Chinese boxset with all the G1 series. Navigation would be easier...

Damn, that's really tempting.... I already own a set of course, but this could free up some of my shelf space on the rack since I have the original individual volumes released from Rhino. For anyone that owns this particular box set from Shout already, what's the width of the set and how's the audio and video quality compared to the Rhino release?

It's 3 standard dvd's wide, so 1 3/4 inches. I can't comment on the A/V vs Rhino (don't own them) but I didn't find any non 80's cartoon issues when I watched them.

Far superior to the Rhino Set. Shout factory didn't add any sounds or footage the way the Rhino ppl did. This set is far better and I did have both

Thank you both for your input. That's definitely a space saver compared to the Rhino set and I agree, the sounds they introduced were cheesy. I read somewhere the video sourcing samples that Shout obtained aren't as crisp as what Rhino used, but since Rhino oversaturated some contrasts and made them overly bright, I'm probably better off with the darker Shout set which has the proper audio effects. Ordered while the sale was on and still waiting for it to arrive, but look forward to replacing my Rhino set.

Rhino also "added/replaced" some scenes to make their source seem more crisp. One episode in particular they replaced Megatron with his commercial appearance rather than his actual cartoon one which through me off the first time I watched it. You definitely won't regret replacing your Rhino set.
