3D Movies - Yes or No ? & Why ?

Just took a look on the Cineplex website to see what was playing & noticed TMNT & GOTG are only playing in 3D at night. Now imo I'm not a fan of 3D at all. I think for the most part it's a waste of money. I feel the first 10 mins. of a 3D movie has some pretty kewl 3D but after that it pretty much looks like 2D.

Looks like I'll be watching "Into The Storm" tomorrow.

Just wondering what you all think of 3D movies.
Please leave comments, concerns, rants or whatever below. Thanx

Re: 3D Movies - Yes or No ? & Why ?

I do not go to the theatres very much. But when there is a movie worth watching, I always go and watch it in 3D. I.e. Hobbit, AOE, Clash of the Titans (man do I regret that one), Resident Evil. Heck I even watched Jurassic Park in 3D IMAX when it was re-released.

On every single occasion watching 3D movies, I have been dissappointed. Like you said, 3D is good in the very beginning, some at the end, and literally nothing in the middle.

3D movies are meant for animated movies (cartoons). I think budget restrictions and current technology seriously hold back 3D rendering in non-animated movies.

To me, it's still not really worth it, especially IMAX 3D. Don't waste your money on it. There is no difference between IMAX 3D and reguar 3D aside from the sharper picture.

Personally, I have decided not to see movies in 3D anymore unless they are animated cartoons. AOE supposedly was recorded with the special IMAX 3D cameras but I didn't see any difference with regular 3D. It was the last straw for me. Ironic it was a Transformers movie that pushed me over the edge.

The only reason for me to go to a movie is to see a movie on a huge screen. I'd rather watch the movie in 1080p on my HDTV at home in DTS. Snacks are cheaper too.

In short, I hate 3D. If it's a movie I deem worth watching in the theatre, I usually go for the 3D just because I'm only going to watch it in 3D once and then every time I see it after will be in 2D.

I can't go back to 2D. I saw AOE in 3D (first movie in 3 years) and I was completely blown away by the 3D. Since then I watched GOTG in 3D, and hopefully, tomorrow, Ninja Turtles!

If I didn't end up with a splitting migraine headache I might actually enjoy live action 3d movies.

I do manage to watch animated 3d movies with no issues.

So generally no with the exception of animated movies.

Also having to wear glasses over glasses is a pain.

Re: 3D Movies - Yes or No ? & Why ?

Don't really care fore 3D one way or another. After I get settled in I don't even notice if it's 3D or not. So for me, 3D is just added cost to the movie.

I think it's because I don't get too wowed over visuals. If there isn't a decent story, I don't care how good the movie looks, I still won't like it. I'd rather have an engaging movie with great characters but meh effects than great effects and nothing else.

I prefer substance over style, most of the time. There are of course some guilty pleasure movies where the story sucks and it's all visuals, but I like them anyway. But those are few and far between.

I'll watch 3D, but if I can see a movie in 2D, I would prefer that.
