Re: Health services = lame

Its not perfect, and the ER being based on Triage means long wait times if youre not absolutely dying (basically, head injury, massive trauma, loss of consciousness, heart problems, etc.), they'll sit you down because they figure you can "keep", which sucks, when you end up waiting 7 hours with someone who's got strep throat or something.

Some days are likely better than others, as well, if a lot of people get injured, or even one doctor is out, it can change the situation drastically. It's a shame you had to wait, and I can understand why it gets people upset if they're already sick and/or in pain, or even worse, if its their kid. There's a lot of room for improvement, and maybe lobbying the governments of our respective provinces with the grievances we make here would not be a bad idea...

Re: Health services = lame

We're fortunate here in Vancovuer to have the BC Children's Hospital.

When my son had a terrible fever at 16 months old we skipped the local ER and drove the extra 20 minutes to BCCH where we they have an understanding that high temperature in babies/toddlers can be deadly.

There are true heroes there...they should all be taken out for sushi paid for by the Province. Seeing some of the sicker kids makes you very thankful for the life you and your family have.

It's called triage.
They take the sickest people first and then deal with you.

If you were having an allergic reaction or you were bleeding you will get fast service. Of course, you will always preempt by unfortunate folks who are in by ambalances.

Yeah, sorry to hear Pascal. As a father too I completely understand how you feel.
I still have faith in our healthcare though. My wife broke her hip bailing off a scooter a few years ago. If we lived in the US the bills would have ruined us. There are some inconveniences and sometimes people get the short end of the stick but at least medical bills won't wipeout peoples life savings or get all of your worldly possessions repo'd.

Re: Health services = lame

She got back home this morning! She's her normal self again, bouncing all around the place!

With high fever while waiting to see a doctor...

She still managed to crawl despite the wiring...

Finally free!

Re: Health services = lame

Hey Pascal, those pics are identical to the ones we took of our little guy when we spent two nights at BCCH because of a high fever. From the looks of it he was around the same age as your little gal is right now.

Ain't fatherhood fun? Soon they'll be wanting to borrow the car or calling from jail to bail them out after shoplifting at The Bay (hopefully not the latter).

Good to see she's doing better!
