I hate it when Hasbro recycles names. Steeljaw is a cassetticon, Strafe is a Technobot. It's like they are trying to erase TF history. Are there other examples?

Endless examples going all the way back to Beast Wars.

darn I always associate the name Steeljaw with that AUTOBOT cassette which has a cat-mode.

why can't the new Decepticon Leader actually be a Decepticon who's shown leadership qualities previously? Grrrrrrr

I guess it goes to show you that they will do whatever they feel like doing personally I am fine with it as long as it is written well

Re: Steeljaw Announced As The New Decepticon Leader For Transformers: Robots In Disgu
A name is a name, and most TF animated series exist in their own continuities that are not related to the others. This RID Steeljaw has nothing to do with the G1 Steeljaw (Autobot minicassette) or the AOE Steeljaws (Lockdown's mechanical wolves). Like Robimus said, there are countless examples of this -- not just with lesser-known names like Steeljaw or Strafe, but even prominent names with extremely strong character associations, like Ironhide and Grimlock. That's the prerogative of the show creators, and that's okay. This Steeljaw is a new character occupying a new role that just happens to recycle a name that, let's face it, hasn't been used in any prominent way lately, and I'm excited to see what they do with it.

Re: Steeljaw Announced As The New Decepticon Leader For Transformers: Robots In Disgu
I don't mind name re-use as long as it remains within the same faction. But here, it is a D-lister name being re-used for the Decepticon leader? Oh well, guess they really liked it.
If people remember steeljaw the con over steeljaw the cassette, then well, I guess that idea is stronger than the other or vice versa.

I'm over it. Same name, different character. Just try to imagine a name like "SteelJaw" to be the Transformer equivalent of a human name like "Dave."
hmmm.... almighty leader of the Decepticons... Dave?

Terrible, about the name duplication. It is fairly easy to come up with a new name.
Get a dictionary.
Close eyes.
Riffle through the pages and randomly stop somewhere.
Put your finger down and open your eyes.
For a Decepticon, cut the word in half and replace the last half with "itron".
Poof-Done! "Vagitron".
