Issues with MP Megatron

Okay, first of all this has nothing to do with breaking joints or anything but I just acquired the add on kit for MP Megatron and grabbed him off the shelf to try a test run on him and realized that all the metal parts have tarnished so bad that they look gold now and leave that god awful stink on your hands after touching it. My question is this, Has this happened to anyone else and if so is there a way to reverse and prevent this from happening again???
