How I do my poses for my TFs either depend on theme or character.

For example, when I was adjusting my shelf for Animated characters, I thought about what the scenario would be (A fight between Decepticons and the Elite Guard?) and then think about how a character would specifically fight (Ie. Would Arcee just be in a defensive pose, or would she fiercely attack someone reminiscent of her Spotlight persona?)

Another thing would be just testing your toys and see how far they can extend their joints without any strain or risk to stress marks. Despite the older generation of toys being 'stiff', they can posed to the extent of their ability.

But, like everyone else said, the key is your imagination.

Re: Bunch of POSERS around here!

It's probably a reiteration of what has already been said in this thread so far, but the way I approach posing is to simply first play around and explore what sort articulation points are available on a figure. Determine just how much range of motion you have with it, then determine if the weight distribution allows the center of gravity to be stable in a given position. When it doesn't balance, twist or turn something until it's steady.

I start with spreading out the legs, giving them a turn at the thigh swivel if it's there and tilting the ankles. Turn the waist if you can towards the leg that you lead out with if you want the figure to lean forward, or twist the waist slightly away from the leading leg if your goal was to pose the figure as though the character was strafing while shooting. Arms and head position can be freely moved into whatever angle you feel is natural.

At the end of the day, like everyone else said, just use your imagination, but to begin with, you've gotta play with it. Good luck!

Sorry to derail the thread for a moment, but I gotta know. Is the idea behind this pose, is that Rodimus is drunk and thinking about how he got into his leadership position, and feels guilty about it. And in his drunken stooper, the guilt has manifested into different colours of Optimus Prime that point and ridicule him for his betrayal?

Anyways, like others have said, posing is about imagination and just playing around with the figure until you get something that appeals to you eye. Also, having a pose from a particular scene in mind while you do it helps.

Also, you can try sorta role playing in mind and think about a particular character would act and that will help dictate a pose.
