Well, it's also usually more expensive overseas to buy American toys. What makes Transformers even more expensive at the time is that the cost of living in HK at the time is also much cheaper. When I emigrated shortly after the 1986 Movie came out, I recall everything in Canada cost 2-3x more, even after the exchange rate.
Anyway, CAD20 Optimus makes it even more incredible that a CAD1K Unicron is on the market.

On my only visit to Hong Kong in November 2016, they were ahead of Canada by at least one Wave in the Titans Returns line, but the retail prices were noticeably higher, 60 - 80% higher. For the Transformers enthusiasts that collect in Hong Kong, they must be even more hardcore than us due to the cost of living & limited real estate.
To display a $1,000CAD Unicron costs more than that in Hong Kong 'cause you have to factor in real estate prices which are easily $3,000CAD per square foot.
I am cheering for Unicron to be funded & made just so I can see one in person. I can't part with that kind of money for one 'cause I am already running out of space in my place for existing Transformers. Downtown 416 prices are now almost $1,000CAD per square foot.

Yeah, I've noticed that if I'm willing to take the risk on Ebay and sell my Transformers worldwide, my fellow Asians tend to pay a premium over North Americans for our figures.
Unfortunately, I no longer sell worldwide because our exorbitant shipping cost indirectly makes it too easy for overseas buyers to abuse Ebay policies (I've been bilked out of $200 of Transformers).

Are you like the troll of the Cybertron forums? I don't think I need to justify myself to you.

Zeta wins. HasTak needs to go back to the drawing board now.

Definitely agree with you there. I wonder if Hasbro will add more features to their Unicron from now until the release. There's definitely time for that, but I do doubt that they will because it's them.

It doesn't really need more features (other than LEDs and voice clips); they should redesign the whole thing to integrate the panels in the body like Zeta.

But then it wouldn't have the chompy action! Chompy action is very important for me.
