Soundwaves, as it is a long drive for you, I totally understand your feelings about it.
Now as a vendor at the show, me and others here are pushing to help change it from a few toy vendors, and nonsense most of us here wouldn't care about (junk), to a true collectibles and toy show. To write it off based on this one show for most people, who didn't even attend, wouldn't help our community get a dedicated toy show again. I personally don't have the time to organize and run Retro and Relevant anymore, and no one has stepped up to the plate to start their own toy show here. So the best we as a community can do is try to and support the shows that are happening. Vancouver Comic Show at Croation Center is growing big, now with the added second room. However, even with a few toy sellers there, its a comic dominated show, and majority of the vendors return, leaving no room for new vendors to get in.
That leaves the Pop Culture show as the only venue to have a focused toys and collectibles show. It may take a few shows to get it to Retro and Relevant level, however, if we work together, we can make it a fun show to look forward. Otherwise, our local alternative to a toy show is the Cherrybomb show in Victoria. For us lower mainland folks, its an expensive trip to even get there, thanks to the ferry ride back and forth.

Makes sense.
I guess you have to get a bit lucky.
And it probably depends on what you are looking for.
I'm not really into g1...it too often feels like paying a premium for other peoples garbage...but maybe if I was, or was into some other things, I could have found some good deals.
As I was mainly looking for masterpiece, classics and anything no movie related post 1990's it maybe just wasnt the right show for me.

Re: BC Community Thread For Non-Sightings Chat
I haven't been figure hunting much this year... Was at Grandview Walmart last night, and spotted a TR Voyager Megatron with a Brawn head. Right after, another collector came and grabbed it, but I pointed out the swap. He thought it was a factory error, but I told him someone did it on purpose, and to double check before he buys any, haha.
Anyways, have others noticed an increase in figure swaps lately?

I've noticed more with Marvel Legends stuff. Not so much with TF's so far.

You're looking at $230 usd plus tax from a3u or $230 plus shipping from bbts, tfsource (and duty). $250ish cad if you pre ordered in the fall (plus possible duty)

I pre-ordered online from AE and he was $140 US before shipping, which was $55. So that's just under $270 Can. Dam, my bum hurts just typing that. But that's about as good as it gets in terms of online stores.

For the original poster's question, it's always a good idea to preorder from Japan for MP figures. I paid about $225 CAD + $40 CAD shipping from HLJ. About the same as AE there, but I think some retailers have better preorder discounts.

My customs fees have never hit $40 as far as I can recall via Canada Post (EMS/SAL). More often than not they don't charge me. If you use a courier, the sky's the limit...
