Furthermore did you know that the toy reviews on BWTF.com use reproduced panels of Hot Shot from that very same fan comic as a scoring system?
Here is Ben's review for Universe Hot Shot which, ironically, he hated:

If I'm not mistaken, when you align Scorponok's "robot mode" legs together, it also forms the BW Predacon insignia, making him a double-homage. I don't have my own pics but you can see it on his legs in this:

G1 Hot Rod had a straight collar in his animation model by Floro Dery (But is non existant in any other art forms). Animated gave birth to the flared/popped collar.
