Re: Cybertron.ca's Transformers Q&A Answers for August 2009 from Hasbro
Answer #1 really doesn't put that situation in the clear though. Which shipping method do they use? If UPS, or anything other than USPS, well there's problem #1. Would immediately be doing a disservice to Canadian customers and can be easily researched.
With USPS, taxes only get charged from $40 and up (not including shipping, only value of goods), and even then not all the time. So for any purchase under $40, right away that doesn't make any sense.
Also with USPS, there is First Class International, which is massively cheaper than other shipping options. It is less secure, but still rather secure and other retailers like TFSource offer this shipping option.
Also, how do they guess the duty/taxes? Do they ever make any money off over estimating? Anyone who's had UPS come across the border knows that you could send the same item marked the same way 5 times and get charged 5 different duty/tax/upscam values for fees. Do they refund the difference of over-estimations?
So in conclusion I see this answer that they are really just servicing us as total garbage. If they really wanted to keep the price down there are better things they could be doing. Paying $30 shipping on a single smallish purchase (just for starters) is ridiculous and not market-savvy.
