It feels the same, but sorta hard to tell because for whatever reason Nintendo decided to spray a finish on top of the plastic (that's the case for my gray ones and I assume it's the same for all others). I realized this from looking at my grey joy-cons after playing too much BotW.
So, what you are feeling is the matte paint on the joy-cons. And unfortunately I got some stray particles stuck on the paint on the left joy-con.
