Take a closer look! The front of his shins are still clearly the cab front (you can see the grill, bumper and all that, as well as the the windshield), just upside down. Turning integrating it into the shins was a clever way of keeping that nod while still maintaining the sculpt and not ending up with goofy boots (cool on the original G1 version, not so much on a modern update).
I wonder what's gonna happen with the rest of the trailer when he's in bot mode. There's still a whole bunch of mass in vehicle mode unaccounted for in the bot mode. Base? Super-weapon? Looking forward to finding out!
