Great bonding time indeed! I think part of the respect they demonstrated is because they know without a shadow of a doubt these toys belong to their father, not just some other kid who has no authority over them. They may not be familiar with the word, but they grasp the connotative feelings about it.
It's great that they're intuitively figuring out the engineering ahead of the recommended age groups of those toys, but like you said, Hasbro might just be playing it safe literally for safety reasons (small moving parts, etc.). Hope you and your minibots share more experiences like this together!
