I doubt they cancelled it voluntarily. He did say "Due to circumstances out of our control".
I would imagine that Hasbro politely requested that their licensed imagery (perhaps the use of the Autobot and Decepticon logos on the figures) not be included in the books, yet also expressed admiration and an interest in a collaboration of sorts.
I am content to be patient.
