$30000 of merchandises? I don’t condone such acts but he was simply too greedy, probably got too daring and was tagged by stores and cops. How many small time “toy swappers” and “bar code fakers” are there? And how many people just walked off with unpaid items? Judging by the store theft statistics, a lot.
I have seen a guy walked off with a TV at a Futureshop
years ago. I have seen ladies walked out with new clothes from the fitting rooms. Store clerks were not allow to pursuit (I asked), only security guards and lost prevention personnels can. Most stores like Walmart now have security guards posted at exits, but still this kind of scam is hard to catch on spot.
