They could've gone a step or two further, and made Galvatron a Battlemaster figure that turns into a simplified version of his space cannon mode that could be compatible with other Siege figures. I'm not sure if scale with Unicron would've been affected, but if we're looking for added value, it seemed like a real missed opportunity.
