You could try this:

-get a work area ready near the sink, I like to put an old towel on the counter top
-boil hot water (yes, to a complete boil)
-pour carefully over the part that needs to flex...

I had this happen as well...I think Rippersnapper has something similar to gold plastic syndrome...more like "blue plastic syndrome" but either way they are likely to fail over time.

How about very small gauge of metal rod? They often have this at hobby stories, maybe even Home Depot/Lowes. I have some that is a little more than 1mm thick, use it all the time to reinforce...
